LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK DAY TRIP

OVERVIEW

Lake Manyara National Park is a protected wildlife area located in northern Tanzania. It is famous for its diverse ecosystem, including a soda lake, forest, and open savannah, that support a wide variety of wildlife species.

If you are planning a day trip to Lake Manyara National Park, here is an overview of what you can expect:

  • Start your day early to maximize your time in the park. The park opens at 6:00 am, and it is recommended that you arrive early to avoid the crowds and witness the beautiful sunrise over the park.

  • The park is best known for its tree-climbing lions, which can be spotted resting in the branches of acacia trees. Other wildlife species that you might see include elephants, giraffes, buffalos, zebras, hippos, and numerous bird species.

  • Take a game drive through the park to explore its different habitats and spot wildlife. You can hire a guide or join a group tour to make the most of your visit.

  • Visit the soda lake to see flocks of pink flamingos and other water birds. The lake is also home to hippos, and you can take a boat safari to get closer to them.

  • Walk along the canopy walkway, which is the longest suspended walkway in East Africa. It offers a unique perspective of the forest canopy and an opportunity to spot wildlife from above.

  • Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen, as well as a camera and binoculars to capture the stunning views and wildlife sightings.

  • The park is located about 126 km (78 miles) from Arusha, and it takes about 2.5 hours to drive there. You can hire a car or join a tour from Arusha or Moshi.

DETAILED ITINERARY

6:00 AM: Pick up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi Your day trip will start early in the morning. You will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi by your safari guide/driver. Make sure to have breakfast before the pick-up as there are no restaurants along the way. 8:30 AM: Arrive at Lake Manyara National Park After a 2.5-hour drive, you will arrive at the entrance gate of Lake Manyara National Park. Your driver will handle the park entry procedures, and you will then start the game drive. 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Morning Game Drive During the morning game drive, you will explore the different landscapes of Lake Manyara National Park, including the forest, the lake, and the grassy plains. You will have the chance to see a variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and different species of birds. 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM: Picnic Lunch After the morning game drive, you will stop at a designated picnic area within the park for lunch. Your safari guide will provide you with a packed lunch box, which includes sandwiches, fruits, snacks, and drinks. You can enjoy your lunch while admiring the beautiful view of Lake Manyara. 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Afternoon Game Drive After lunch, you will continue with your game drive, exploring different areas of the park that you may have missed during the morning drive. You will have the opportunity to see more wildlife and take photos. 4:00 PM: Departure At the end of the afternoon game drive, you will exit the park and begin your journey back to Arusha or Moshi. You will be dropped off at your hotel around 6:30 PM, marking the end of your day trip to Lake Manyara National Park.
