DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT

On Day 1, upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), which serves domestic flights, you will be greeted by a representative of African Big Cats Safaris. They will drive you to your accommodation in Arusha where you will spend the night, awaiting your safari the following day.

Accommodation for the night will be provided at Ilboru Safari Lodge, with a bed and breakfast meal plan.

DAY 2: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

On Day 2, after an early morning breakfast, we will depart for Tarangire National Park, named after the Tarangire River that runs through it. During the dry season, this “river of warthogs” is the only source of water for wildlife in the area. The vegetation here is dense, with elephant grass, acacia woodlands, and lush groundwater forest. The park is famous for its elephant families, giraffes, bushbucks, hartebeest, and predators such as lions and leopards. It is also home to more breeding species of birds than anywhere else in the world. After lunch and an extensive game drive, we will head to our partner lodges in Karatu for dinner and overnight at Eileen’s Trees Inn with a meal plan of breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

DAY 3: NGORONGORO CRATER TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

On Day 3, after breakfast, we will depart for Ngorongoro Crater, which is concealed by steep volcanic walls, providing a pristine wilderness with sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland, and glistening lakes and swamps. This natural reserve is home to some of the densest large mammal populations in the African continent. The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago. It is renowned for its geological features, and the best chance to see the endangered black rhino. After lunch, we will drive to Serengeti National Park where we will spend the night at Embalakai Camp with a meal plan of breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

DAY 4: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK TO KARATU

On Day 4, after an early morning breakfast, we will continue with our en-route game drive in Serengeti National Park before departing for Karatu. Serengeti National Park is the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, with the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa. It is famous for the migration of over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras from the northern hills to the southern plains every October and November, then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May, and June. Late afternoon, we will drive straight to Karatu through Ngorongoro Conservation Area where we will spend the night at Eileen’s Trees Inn with a meal plan of breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

DAY 5: : LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK TO ARUSHA

On Day 5, after breakfast, we will depart for Lake Manyara National Park, known for its abundance of birds and tree-climbing lions. The western escarpment of the Rift Valley forms the park’s western border, and the shallow, alkaline Lake Manyara lies to the east. The park’s vegetation is diverse, ranging from savannah to evergreen forest. On your exploration of the park, you may see giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, elephants, and if lucky, lions lounging in trees. After lunch and an extensive drive, we will head straight to Arusha where your safari adventure with Cal Tanzania Safaris will come to an end.
