Day 1: Arusha – Drive to Mto wa Mbu – Engaresero & Climb Ol Doinyo Lengai

Begin your cultural journey with a scenic drive from Arusha through the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley. Pass through the Engaruka Basin, surrounded by semi-desert plains, extinct volcanoes like Kitumbene and Gelai, with the sacred Ol Doinyo Lengai (“Mountain of God”) towering ahead.

  • Arrive around midday at Falls Camp, located along the banks of the Engaresero River.

  • Relax with a refreshing shower, dip in the river, or hike to the hidden waterfalls nestled in the Western wall of the Rift Valley.

  • After dinner and some rest, prepare for an unforgettable midnight climb of Ol Doinyo Lengai. Reach the summit to witness glowing lava from the only active carbonatite volcano in the world — a breathtaking and rare sight.
